Severe Blood Pressure – Hypertension
Severe Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
Hypertension is defined as arterial blood pressure higher than 140/90 mmHg.
Hypertension is a systemic disease that manifests itself with persistently high blood pressure, and is an important health problem because it causes serious complications and is widely seen in society.
It has been demonstrated that untreated hypertension causes health problems that increase the mortality rate, such as Heart Failure, Coronary Heart Disease, Hemorrhagic and Ischemic Stroke, Kidney Failure, Peripheral Artery Disease, and Aortic Dissection.
Complications of hypertension and the resulting mortality rate increase in direct proportion to the height of blood pressure. For this reason, it is best for every patient to have a regular general health examination and to detect the presence of hypertension by blood pressure measurements without waiting for symptoms to develop. The aim here is; To recognize and control hypertension early and to reduce Cardiovascular and Renal Mortality and Morbidity.
When to Go to the Hospital?
The target blood pressure level should be <140/90 mmHg, and even if the person has hypertension, in the presence of high blood pressure, he should apply to the Emergency Service without waiting for symptoms to appear and keep his blood pressure under control.
In order to achieve this, regular examination and follow-up of the patient, regular measurement of blood pressure at home, and compliance of the patient with the given medical treatment and lifestyle changes are very important.
